THE EVOLUTION OF GIGGLE JUICE started over four generations ago when the Romano Family started farming organic cut flowers in the Bay Area in the 1920s. Family members then transformed a high Sierra livestock ranch into organic vegetables in the early 2000s to provide sustainable organic vegetables for their customers in the Reno/Lake Tahoe area. Horseradish being a major crop of the farm then led the Romanos to begin making small batches of Bloody Mary cocktail mixes for their local customers at farmers markets around the Reno/Lake Tahoe area. The Romanos then realized a need for providing a healthy cocktail/mocktail (no alcohol) mixer alternative to the “store bought”, preservative-based cocktail mixers on the market, laced full of sweeteners, flavorings, and coloring. In 2021 Gary Romano and Lara Winfield decided to take it a step further and develop a locally crafted line of six of the most favorite cocktail mixers: Bloody Mary, Margarita, Mai Tai, Piña Colada, Sea Breeze (Vodka Punch), and the Tequila Maria. These cocktail/mocktail mix recipes were developed with mixologists from the Lake Tahoe area.
DRIVEN TO PROVIDE A HEALTHIER ALTERNATIVE the farmer and the marketing strategist found a local juice company in Oakland California along with small juice producers around the State who sourced local fruits and vegetables in season. These companies provide us with organic, fresh squeezed, cold pressed and flash pasteurized juices for our recipes and sent to our local small bottler in Petaluma, California.
THE NAME GIGGLE JUICE was selected by Gary Romano and Lara Winfield in 2021 from a period during prohibition in the 1920s when the “flappers” aka show girls, would be invited down to the “speakeasies” to entertain the “bootleggers.” The flappers would be given alcoholic drinks that would make them “giggle”…hence the birth of Giggle Juice.
